InterCultural Competency Training: Focus on Human Trafficking
In the wake of the charges of Human Trafficking of Marshallese birth mothers and their babies, MEI is offering a humanities-based, InterCultural Competency Training to inform service providers, law enforcement officials, and the general public about Marshallese culture, specifically traditional Marshallese adoptions practices and family structure.
The training will provide general information about Marshallese history and culture, matrilineality, U.S.-R.M.I. relations, including the Compact of Free Association, and the Marshallese diaspora in Arkansas. The training will include brief language instruction and an extended Q&A period for participants. Students will receive a certificate of completion.
Registration deadline: December 10, 2019.
Cost: $65/participant
This course is taught by MEI Program Director Carlnis Jerry, Women’s Program Coordinator Winona Kisino, and MEI Cofounder Dr. April Brown. Cost of this course is $65/person. Cost covers all needed materials (in-class and online).
The Marshallese Educational Initiative is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in July 2013 in northwest Arkansas that specializes in humanities programming.
