The Walton Family Foundation announced a new statewide fund for grant-making to organizations offering legal, health, education and advocacy services and meeting other high-demand needs for the LGBTQ+ community across the state.

EngageNWA Hosts Local Events to Commemorate 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre
Almost 80 members of the Northwest Arkansas community participated in two events focused on uncovering the history of Tulsa’s Greenwood District, the events that took place before, during and after the 1921 massacre of its Black residents, and the impact and legacy of those events.
One participant commented afterward, “I love the data-based approach to this presentation. It was emotionally moving and thought-provoking. Excited to stay connected to what efforts are being made going forward to address this dark period in history.” Another said, “I grew up in Tulsa and never learned about this in school. I’m sharing with my children and others!”
The Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission recently unveiled Greenwood Rising, a new state-of-the-art history center located in the heart of Greenwood.
Juneteenth Proclaimed Official Holiday at City of Fayetteville
The Fayetteville City Council recently approved Juneteenth as a paid city holiday. The resolution was proposed by council member D’Andre Jones and received unanimous approval. Beginning June 19, 2022, the city will encourage employees to take time that day for education and community service and, per the resolution, “to reflect on the history of slavery in the United States and the historic struggle of African Americans to end slavery and discrimination in all its forms.”

Juneteenth Proclaimed Official Holiday at City of Fayetteville

Beginning June 19, 2022, the city will encourage employees to take time that day for education and community service and, per the resolution, “to reflect on the history of slavery in the United States and the historic struggle of African Americans to end slavery and discrimination in all its forms.”
